Taunton Ruishton (M5, J25) hotel

I chose this hotel for convenient location near Taunton. It was important for me to have aircon, and this is the only premier inn in Taunton that offers it. Arrived to a poor attitude from the front desk who seemed inconvenienced by my check in. Get to the room, aircon not working. Room was 25c (was barely 20c outside). Windows open a hair’s breadth and room was opposite a busy trunk road. I asked for a change of room but I was told there was nothing available. Fully booked, nothing. At midnight I couldn’t take anymore. On top of the stifling room and the constant traffic noise (Lorry’s, cars and sirens), there was also this low rumble about every minute or so. I went to reception to complain. The night receptionist suggested it could be a boiler making the noise. In fairness the night staff were brilliant and gave us a new room without question and invited me to check it out before accepting. Thankfully the aircon worked! The next day I returned the key for the original room to the day reception (same woman as check in). What a delight she was(!). No apology, just bad attitude. Wittering on about “her” cleaning staff having to clean another room! She told me the cleaning staff don’t want to be there, and she doesn’t want to be there. Well here’s suggestion: Get another job as you are obviously unhappy with the one you are in! The 1 star is given to the night staff who were actually very helpful and understanding. If it wasn’t for them, it would be no stars! I’m done with Premier Inn. They used to be good, but have gone rapidly down hill.

Fantastic stay, great customer service and an amazing breakfast. We had a great stay and nothing was to much trouble. Fantastic poached eggs. Our room was very large and cool. We will be back again.

This is the friendliest Premier Inn we have ever stayed in! From check-in, where staff seemed genuinely welcoming and helpful, to the chef at breakfast, who engaged in conversation with us, right through to a cleaner, who upon seeing us carrying out our suitcases at the end of our stay, asked us if everything had been OK and if we had enjoyed our stay.

Great location on the way to the south west. Really friendly staff throughout our stay. The usual standard of room, spacious for a family of 4. Breakfast was the usual standard breakfast with lots of choice.

Empty reception desk on arrival. Rang bell, rang bell again, entered car registration number into “do it yourself” machine, several buttons only worked when they wanted to, completed at seventh go. Young receptionist arrived after a few more minutes, tried to book us in…. Had a few goes then told us the details we had didn’t match the details she had. Then said the machine wasn’t working how it normally does….. I walked away and my other half completed the trial until the young lady found our details. Now sat in a very warm room with the fan reaching maximum velocity. On the good side the fan is very quiet for the amount of work it is doing. Shame the car parking spaces are only wide enough for a penny farthing. Looking forward to tonight’s sleep, and, if I make it through, another battle tomorrow.
