Nottingham South hotel

From the wheelchair users perspective, as an addition to my husband’s review. We arrived here late afternoon to be told that there were ‘maintenance issues’ with the wheelchair accessible room and that the receptionist had phoned “all of the other people who had booked an accessible room to see if they still needed it” (from experience, this scenario was highly unlikely). We were told that it was “ok” because they’d managed to place us “in a downstairs room” as though that was the only criteria for a wheelchair accessible room! It There was no offer to try and find us an accessible room in another hotel or any other solution and as it was now late afternoon we hadn’t the time (or funds) to begin to do that ourselves . It appears that they thought that we’d merely accept the room offered. The receptionist couldn’t elaborate on what the so called ‘maintenance issues’ were and on checking with another member of staff at 7.30am the next day, that room was perfectly fine and booked for that day. It seems to me that the room had been double booked and we had been lied to. We had booked here for a family occasion in the area and having travelled for almost 5 hours, I was in need of a shower and change before going out. The shower was over the normal bath, entirely inaccessible to me (my wheelchair wouldn’t even fit into the bathroom) so I had to go without. Along with that, I couldn’t use the toilet without having to awkwardly transfer front on and then leave the door open when I relieved myself. My husband is not my carer, I’m an entirely independent person who just happens to use a wheelchair and I’m sure that many people wouldn’t be happy to use the toilet within full view of anyone else! Conveniently there wasn’t a manager on duty on either day to discuss this with.

I paid for a wheelchair accessible room 2 months before as my wife is a wheelchair user . Arrived at 4 pm to be told . We have been trying to phone you all day the room is not available so you will have to have a standard room . Standard room do not have grab handles movable shower heads or lowered bath or wet rooms . So my wife was unable to have a shower . Manager had cleared off reception thought that by offering free breakfast that would appease the situation. I had already booked free breakfast so that was a waste of time . Its not the money which is reasonable but it is the lack of knowledge what a wheelchair user needs in a bathroom. We were told the accessible room was out of order but I doubt this was the case and someone had messed up . Oh and the alarm went off twice at 11 and 11.15 .

I had booked a double room and a twin room, but the twin was nothing more than a double bed and put-up bed, resulting in a 58 year old having to sleep in a bed even children would find uncomfortable. This arrangement, I discovered, was set out in the booking small print, but I still felt conned. Some light bulbs weren't working. The front of the room's fuse box was missing. The toilet cistern kept jamming on. The kettle frequently blew the fuses when switched on - presumably explaining why the front of the fuse box was missing. The tv kept freezing up, even preventing it being turned off. Requests for fresh towels were not acted upon. The breakfast room was the smallest I have ever encountered. It was clearly inadequate for the number of guests. The room itself was cramped, people were compelled to push against one another for food and cutlery because of a lack of space, and seating was limited and tables uncomfortably close to one another. The food on offer was appalling - fried eggs hard and leathery, sausages dangerously under cooked, beans congealed, scrambled eggs a watery goo. It was inedible and utter waste of money. I sat for about 10 minutes in the foyer waiting for members of our party to arrive. In that time, four guests complained at the front desk about issues similar to those I encountered, demonstrating that my experience was not uncommon. I will never use this hotel ever again and I urge you to do the same. Rooms: 1/5 | Service: 1/5 | Location: 3/5

We decided to stop here for the night on our way to Northumberland. The room felt bare of required furniture like table and had only one chair for two people. The one chair provided was dirty with dust dating back from day one of the hotel - gross. The noise from the other room at night with kids running around until 12am was unbearable.
