History

Since opening in 1986, York Dungeon has attracted visitors who want to take a trip around 2000 years of York's horrible history and meet lots of frighteningly funny characters along the way. From famous plotter Guy Fawkes and the infamous highwayman Dick Turpin to executioners and plague doctors, this live action interactive horror show brings to life some of York’s darkest history.

Getting there

Located opposite the Grand Opera House, around the corner from Clifford's Tower, York Dungeon is at the centre of the city.

Getting there by air

If you’re feeling brave after your flight, head from Leeds Bradford International Airport to York Dungeon within 2 hours by car or train.

Eating and drinking

If you need to take a break after all those scary stories, you’ll find plenty of restaurants and cafés in the city centre where you can refuel.

Stop for a pint and some pub grub with a riverside view at the The Lowther.

Enjoy some high street chain favourites, like Pizza Hut or sit down to a hot meze of Turkish food at Reina. You’ll find lots on the menu near York Dungeon.
