Things to do on a budget in London

Contrary to popular belief, London doesn't have to be expensive. There are plenty of things to do if you want to explore London with the family but don't want to splash out.

Get magical

Visit the world of Harry Potter and see just how the films were made. Tickets are £25.50 for kids and £33* for adults, and kids under 4 go free.

Have afternoon tea

Eat yummy cakes and sandwiches aboard BB Afternoon Bus Tour – a red double-decker bus that tours around London for an hour and a half. It costs £45 for adults and £35* for kids aged 6-11. Or, head to One Aldwych for a scrumdiddlyumptious Charlie and the Chocolate Factory afternoon tea – with a menu inspired by the Roald Dahl classic. £34.50 per person, or £45* with a themed cocktail.

Go under water

While you’re taking a stroll along the South Bank, take a trip to the SEA LIFE London Aquarium where you can even swim with sharks! Kids tickets are £19.50 and adults £25.20*, while kids under 3 go for free. You can also save money if you’re clever and book online.

Adopt a pet for the afternoon

Head to Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium in East London where you can enjoy some tasty treats in the company of many rescue cats. £6* per person and you need to book online before visiting.

Roll with the times

For bowling, karaoke and American dining, All Star Lanes provides healthy competition for all the family. £5.95 for kids and £6.95 (off peak) or £7.95* (peak) for adults. Prices are per person per game.

All aboard

Take a Ghost Bus Tour and learn all about London’s gory past, on board a 1960’s Routemaster bus. £21 for adults and £15 for kids, or £57* for a family of four.

Spend a night at the museum

Either the Science Museum or Natural History Museum. Every child must be accompanied by an adult and places book up fast, so book well in advance. £45 or £60* per person (depending on which museum you book for).

Take a tour by land and sea

A tourist bus with a difference: London Duck Tours drive you round in an amphibious vehicle that will take you around the sights before driving into the Thames! The tour lasts 75 minutes and is super popular so book in advance online. £16 for kids and £24 for adults, or £70* for a family of four.

Get your skates on

Head to Family Jam at Roller Disco every Saturday. £10* per person and that includes skate hire! Bargain.
