The 1960s saw the explosion of pop music, a relatively new genre that had only come into existence in the mid-50s. The wide appeal of bands such as The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, coupled with the strong links with other popular culture such as fashion and art, gave rise to a different sort of younger fan – the iconic frenzy of screaming Beatles fans was coined ‘Beatlemania’.
