Bishop Auckland hotel

A very useful stopover near the A1 en route to Scotland or The Lakes. Always a comfortable, light and clean room, a real cocoon in the gales! Don’t forget the local area: Durham and Raby Castle are so close , but this time we visited the free Locomotion railway museum in Shildon, definitely worthwhile with splendid locomotives and carriages.

Shamefully under staffed. No restaraunt. Breakfast was a challenge and key cards did not work so we had to be escorted back to rooms. Avoid this place if you can.

Bed was like sleeping in an hammock raised at ends sunk in middle. Mini fridge was turned up full but would not get cold. Bathroom fan would not turn off complained to very unhelpful receptionist and she told us to take the key card out. This knocks off all power to the room. But on replacing it the fan started up. Also the air conditioning controller when turned off it kept running. Had no sleep whatsoever. The breakfast was short of everything and was inedible. Again complained to reception but didn't seam interested. We paid for 3 nights in a premier plus room and checked out after 1 . Have used premier inn for about 15 years. Give this one a miss .

My partner and I checked in around 8 PM after spending a chilly October afternoon wandering around the town, and that bed was an absolute lifesaver. Honestly, most of a good trip is just getting decent rest, and the mattress here was extremely perfect. It had that heavy, crisp duvet that just traps the heat immediately, and having two different pillow types meant I could stack the firmer one under the softer one without my neck aching by morning. The room was tucked away down the hall, so there was zero corridor noise, and we both slept straight through until my alarm went off at 7:30 AM without waking up once. Everything in the room was spotless when we unpacked our bags, and the location made driving in and parking super easy. We will definitly book another night here next time we are visiting County Durham.
