Horseracing in York dates back to Roman times, with race meetings happening at the current racecourse site since the eighteenth century. In 1754, the first grandstand was built and new stands have been continually added and redeveloped up to the present day. The course can now fit in 60,000 spectators on race day. With exciting fixtures throughout the racing season, including Juddmonte International and Ebor Festival in August, York has some of the biggest prizes in racing.
