Premier Inn will be opening 20 new hotels, with 3,245 rooms, over the next 24 months across London in locations such as Leicester Square, Blackfriars, Old Street, Holborn and Islington, creating 1,000 new jobs.
Premier Inn is currently the largest provider of budget hotels within the M25 area with 51 hotels and 6,127 bedrooms.
The majority of hotels will be leasehold with an equivalent capitalised lease value of £500 million.
The company’s newest hotel, the 267-bedroom Premier Inn London Stratford, was officially opened today (21 September) by Whitbread Chairman Anthony Habgood and Managing Director Patrick Dempsey.
Patrick Dempsey, Managing Director Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants, said:
“Our exciting growth in London means that we can offer even more people a great night’s sleep in the best locations when visiting the capital. We are also delighted to be bringing investment to London whilst creating 1,000 new jobs.
“Premier Inn London Stratford is an outstanding 267 bedroom hotel in one of the best locations in London. We are right in the middle of Europe’s biggest shopping centre, adjacent the Olympic Stadium and six minutes by high speed train from St Pancras. Our customers want great locations and great value from Premier Inn. This new hotel delivers both.”
Lyn Brown, MP for West Ham who also attended the event said: “I was delighted to be here today at the opening of this very swish brand new Premier Inn – I absolutely love the panoramic views of the Olympic site the hotel offers. I was struck by how impressive the management team is here, however, the thing I was most impressed by was that Premier Inn has hired local people and a total of 85 Newham residents now work at this hotel. This commitment by Premier Inn to Newham and regeneration of the area warmly welcomed.”
